This debate is between aaroncollard and Chance Yohman. The topic is the current financial crisis, and what caused it. Aaron is a liberal, and my understanding is that he believes that this was caused by private bankers acting selfishly, which could have been stopped by proper government regulation. Chance's political leanings are in the realm of libertarian/anarchist/independent. He is inclined to believe, if I understand correctly, that government regulation in the first place is the main culprit, though he may place some blame on private individuals as well. I don't believe he would blame a lack of government regulation, however. Of course, we will see for sure when they speak for themselves.
I should note for the sake of the readers that I, the mediator, am a libertarian myself, so I would tend to side with Chance. I know this is not ideal, but I will do my best to deal with both debaters equally. Furthermore, I am not very versed in this topic, so I am curious and a little more open about Aaron's perspective. If either of you believes I am being biased, please say so outloud. My goal is to get both sides to agree to every decision I make, so hopefully bias won't come into play.
We should have a lively debate, and let disagreements form naturally, even if it may seem a little off-topic. As long as you let me do the "organization" aspects, which is my job.
With that said, have at it. I will I leave it to Aaron to make his first argument.
